Introducing: A Journey Into Wholeness by Christine Sinechristine sine - 20 Feb 2007
Lent, those days before Easter that commemorate the 40 days Jesus spent wrestling with Satan in the wilderness, begins February 21st with Ash Wednesday and ends April 5th the day before Good Friday. Many of us are unfamiliar with this season or think of it as a time to give up trivial things like chocolate for a few weeks. Some of us fast for a day or two and get a warm glow of satisfaction because of our sacrifice but these observances make little if any difference to the ongoing journey of our lives Lent is not really about sacrifice or deprivation. It is meant to encourage us to draw closer to God as we confront our brokenness and repent of our sins.
A Journey Into Wholeness: A Study For Lent ,compiled by Christine Sine at Mustard Seed Associates, is an invitation to journey with Jesus towards the Cross during this season of Lent. It is designed to challenge you to move beyond trivial sacrifices and use Lent to deepen your relationship with God by entering the brokenness of our world. It is not just our relationship to God that is distorted and broken. Our relationship to each other, our stewardship of the earth and even inner being are all broken and distorted by sin. This study encourages us to confront all these areas of brokenness and provides practical steps toward healing and wholeness.
Encounter Christ as you reflect on all the aspects of your life and of our world that distort your ability to live effectively as Christ’s disciples. Enter into activities that will enable you to be part of God’s healing. The materials can be downloaded from the MSA website. People can interact on the MSA blog where they can contribute photos, art and reflections that will be posted as part of MSA’s Stations of the Cross for Holy week. Christine is also compiling short worship videos to go with the Lenten study. The first of these “An Invitation to Journey” is available on her blog. New reflections will be added throughout Lent culminating with Stations of the Cross during Holy week.
