Canada: coffee, donuts and killer squirrels - 7 Dec 2004
Invading squirrels haven't deterred the Canadian crew who've turned their garage into a prayer room (if you don't recall the story from a few months ago -read here)
Now pilgrims of the human, rather than animal, kind are dropping by and now the guys at the garage are pouring coffee and hanging some art for their friends, 24-7 Canada reports.
Amy from Mississauga, Ontario tells the story: "It's been quite a crazy past few months for me and my friends here. Our pastor just left our church we've been kind of like sheep without a shepherd. I know that God is calling us to Himself in this time as we mourn his departure, and I can say that without our prayer room we would have been so lost.
The prayer room (which we are now running for a weekend each month) has given us a chance to meet new people with a passion for prayer too! A guy named Andrew (who found us through the 24-7 website) came with 3 other people and we got to pray together ... they want to start some prayer rooms too, so we're going to pray for them as they start taking steps towards that.
We are also starting to do 'coffee and arts nights' at a community art centre here in Mississauga for our friends who don't know God yet. I can tell you that yesterday we spent many hours on our faces crying out to God for our friends who are going to be coming out next Saturday. We keep praying that God will open their hearts and also awaken more people to pray with us."
Continuing on the coffee theme - a praying army is going out on the streets of Victoria, British Columbia, with donuts...Carla (not to be confused with our very own Ms Trundle) says:
"On a side note of inspiration, both Lance and I came back from the 24-7 Canada West Coast gathering feeling the need for our church to dig into the missional heart that 24-7 holds at its core. So, out of a church leadership get-together last night, our Saturday night congregation is heading onto the downtown streets next weekend after our evening service: we'll be armed with hot drinks and donuts, cookies, etc.
A small step, but it has feet -- and born out of our weekend with all of you. Can't wait to see what else gets cooking ..."
PS: 24-7 Canada's Tribes are gathering for the first time 1-3 April in Calgary, Alberta (the site of our first North American Boiler Room, the urban monastery)- want to join them? - find out more here
