Meet 24-7: Laura Bradish - 23 Feb 2005

So ... who is Laura Bradish??
As someone I met in my first week put it, I am the new ‘Brit Addition’ to the
urban monastery [um] core team here in Calgary. My name is Laura (yep, that's my picture to the right), and yes, I have traveled all the way from the somewhat wet - but great place - that is Reading, England. And I'm also the very first "Wild Goose" to land in Calgary!!

Give us some personal details:
I have just finished school, and before going to University, have chosen to take a year out.  Some of the year I am spending here in Canada as a ‘Wild Goose’ working with 24-7 prayer and the [um].

You're here for two more months, right?  How's it going?
It's quite crazy thinking I am already one third of the way through my trip here - I'm here for a total of 3 months. It's a real shame that I'm gone after that, as things are going well so far!  As we come to the end of our first week of prayer at the [um], it is exciting to try and imagine what God has planned for this city and this nation as we continue to pray.

How did you get involved with 24-7Prayer??
I got involved with 24-7 about 5 years ago, while living back home in England.  At the time it was as part of a youth group and I was then involved as we journeyed to set up the first ‘
Boiler Room’ in Reading. It was just a blessing the way that I was invited to join the team and able to take time out, just as the guys here in Calgary were ready to launch.

Why or how did you decide to come to Calgary?
There were no crazy and miraculous signs from God pointing me to Calgary, but as I’ve found quite often following God is about taking risks, leaving everything behind, going for it and journeying to the unexpected. So I heard about the opportunity and ... here I am!  As I stated, I'm  a month in here and I get to be praying and muck in wherever is needed, and generally have a good time, seeking and serving God, building community and obviously a bit of snowboarding on the side!

Last but not least (I'm sure everyone is wondering) ... what's a "Wild Goose"?!?
In the words of
Andy Freeman (the original Boiler Room Abbot) himself, "A wild goose is someone who's giving over some time to follow God in a different way, learn some patterns of life and prayer that glorify him and apply practically their faith in the midst of needy people."
