UK: 'God, If you give me a family I'll give you my life' - 3 Mar 2005

"We prayed during the Southampton University Christian Union mission week...." Andy Balls writes: "Each day we had our morning prayer times and then took to the campus with cheese toasties and flyers for lunchtime talks and promises of free lunches (with a side-order of salvation) for our fellow students.

Events were well attended and there are a good number of people signed up for the follow-up courses starting on Monday, which is great.

Callum asked God to give him a family...."If you give me a family, I'll give you my life."... God likes a challenge....

There was an emphasis on the need for prayer this week - firstly showing its head as the wind threatened to blow our gazebo away - but  a little concentrated prayer brought the wind down to a gentle breeze - God wanted us to trust Him in all things - and that was definitely the reason for the 'success' of the week. (I don't like refering to things as a question of failure or success - Salvation is cause for a party and those that miss out calls for more prayer!)

On Friday night we held our regular CU meeting - but with a nod to any non-christians in the house. The end of the meeting was met with lots of people turning to their friends and asking more about Jesus, interested in the types of stuff we do.

It was a great evening and one  guy, that I know of, gave his life to Jesus. His name is Callum and he was asking God to give him a family. He
said to God "If you give me a family, I'll give you my life." I think God likes a challenge, and he likes us to follow through on the vows we make, so at 4 yesterday Callum got a call from his mum, out of the blue, telling him he had a sister-in-law and a nephew and a niece - so Callum had no choice! What an amazing testimony.

Something we like to do as a CU is have urn outside the Union nightclub and provide Hot Chocolate and other drinks to the partying types as they leave for home. On Wednesday night as I was out there I heard a guy say, '5 of my friends have really been changed by what you've done this week' another guy called Adam told me he needed to go home and see his dad, who is suffering from cancer and how Adam had been a Christian but disregarded it for ages. He resolved, after chatting about it to willing ears, that he would go home this weekend and see his dad!

Lives have been supernaturally changed and transformed this week through simple gestures of food, drink, music and people willing to listen - and it has all been a product of action after prayer - so in God's power and not our own."
