South Africa: Prayers for Rain Answered! - 25 Apr 2005

A 24-7 prayer room in South Africa has seen its prayers for rain miraculously answered. Here's the amazing report from Riann in Stellenbosch:
“About a month ago, God placed a desire in my heart to unite the churches in our local area through prayer.  It was as if a light bulb went on and I realised that prayer is the one thing that every Christian agrees on. I tried objecting to God, saying that I hadn't got the foggiest idea how to achieve this and then found the only one copy of Pete Greig’s book, Red Moon Rising, in my local bookshop...

Reading it within a matter of days, God inspired me and showed me principles I could apply here.

If you are not familiar with South African History, Stellenbosch (left) was the first place outside of Cape Town where a church was planted (Around 1680's), and from here theologians were trained and then sent out into the rest of Africa, to proclaim the good news.  I want to see that happen again!  I drew up a list of hours we’d need to fill and opened up my bedroom as a tabernacle for the weekend. As fun as it sounds, it's not when you long for some sleep.  I had to open the door every hour to let the next slot in (and the previous one out) exhaustion was looming but man was it worth it…

In Pete's book he wrote about an incident in Ibiza where the floodgates of heaven opened and it rained during a great drought... Much the same has happened here in Stellenbosch.

Up until Sunday, we experienced a drought similar to the droughts the Sahara went through in its formative years. After our Prayer Room it was as if God had come to wash the streets of Stellenbosch and the surrounding Cape Peninsula clean. We experienced widespread flooding the likes of which any emergency worker would groan about.

I believe the word "relief" describes the feeling of the church quite well. Many farmers to the north and east have been praying for this exact event for a long time. Water shortages have been widespread, and emergency plans were drafted.  We can’t believe it.  It’s an answer to prayer!

As for catching up on my sleep... last night was divine! Sleeping in a room where there has been intercession and prayer for 2 days is, to say the least, blessed.”
