Canada: Montreal Lives (and Basements) Tranformed - 3 Jun 2005

The connection started in a Winnipeg prayer room back in March ... this particular prayer room was running alongside a mission focus in the run-down north end of that city.

Caroline had journeyed from Montreal to hangout and talk with some of us about what a 24-7 Prayer room alongside a mission emphasis in her city this summer might look like.

Long story made short, she totally loved what God was doing with the 24-7 movement: knitting prayer and mission together was exactly what God had placed on her heart!

Once back in Montreal, she and some friends set up a prayer room in her apartment, and it wasn't long until the prayer virus made it's way into Caroline's home church for a 10-day period before Pentecost -  in a basement of two older ladies in the congregation who initially weren't too sure about young people coming and going every hour of the day and night!

This summer there are plans brewing to see a prayer room run alongside the Montreal Jazz Festival and within a mission emphasis to the entire city!

Here's what Caroline has to say about what God is doing ...
"Since a year ago, we've really been turning more and more towards God through prayer. We are a church of 30-somethings that has been through a lot in the past years and God has been so faithful, bringing us back to Him and reviving us!

"During the year, we set apart a week, every season to pray and fast to seek God's face. This spring that week would fall in May and it also happened to be the time that was set apart for the international 10 days of prayer that ended on the day of Pentecost.

"I had brought up the idea of 24-7 to the church leaders and shown them my own prayer room in my basement ... they loved the idea ... so we went for it!"

Back to the Basement!
"It was totally last minute: the biggest struggles was to find a building, because our church meets in the basement of a school that we rent for Sundays, but we trusted God for a place and went for it and God blessed us!

"The 24-7 list filled in pretty well and we were blessed by two ladies from our church who opened their homes to us and gave us a room in their basement!  At first they weren't opened to the idea of having people entering their home at any hour of the day or the night, but God finally convinced them to do so the Friday we were starting to pray! God can be last minute but always on time!"

God on the move ...
"Personnally, I was amazed by the participation of everyone and from every age group ... reading the prayers of my church family on those walls ... seeing their hearts being broken for the lost and just open and honest before God ... the authenticity of the kids and their heart being poured to their Creator through drawings and simple prayers ... a little child insisting for her mom to bring her to our night of prayer with her bible ready and her blanket because she wants to serve God! ... feeling the presence of God in that room set apart for Him when you enter ... hearing so many testemonies of different people having God revealing them things that were hidden in their lives ... and on it goes!

From a church who was once discouraged and dead as the bones in Ezekiel, I can say this is a miracle and it's just the beginning!

"I witnessed God bringing my church to pray differently: praying with boldness and freedom with passion! From a church who was once discouraged and dead as the bones in Ezekiel, I can say this is a miracle and it's just the beginning! Even this week I was amazed at how He's slowly teaching us to start praying for the sick with faith!"

Praying for Quebec ...
"We've been praying for a revival in Quebec and it feels like the wind is starting to blow in our direction. We have a desire for unity and we're praying for a '365-24-7' in our region ... can't wait to be a part of it!"
