Meet 24-7: David Blackwell - 20 Jun 2005

Name & Age>>>
David Blackwell. Aged 25.

Where are you from>>>
Chicago, Illinois, USA.

How’d you get involved with 24-7>>>
My friends and I met Pete and Samie Greig in England a few years ago.  We had coffee and heard their story.  A number of months later the school those same friends and I lead ran a couple of prayer rooms.  In September 2004, Pete and Samie moved to Kansas City, where I now live, to build into the US and develop friendships here.  Pete took me out for Chinese food one day in January and asked me to pray about taking on leadership responsibilities for 24-7USA.  It took my wife and I completely by surprise but we had a few incredible confirmations that this was right.  Most notably was a time when I asked for prayer from some people who are good at hearing God's voice.

A gentlemen who I had never met, and knew nothing about my life,  began to share what he felt God was telling him for me.  The phrases that stick out are, “God is calling you into a higher level of leadership and influence.   This feels like a lot of responsibility.  God is leading you into this because He trusts you and believes you can handle it.  He is with you and will give you wisdom to gather a team.”  That experience along with mine and my wife's strong sense of  peace sealed the decision for us.

What are your dreams for 24-7 USA?>>>
Simply put, it is too see the people of this nation living passionately for Jesus.  Young and old, I am longing to see the masses connect with God's heart in the place of prayer.  Specifically, I have universtiy students on my heart.  I would love to see another great awakening emerge out of the Universities of this Nation.  What if we watched, in total disbelief, as college grads lead the way forward into the nations of the earth with hearts alive for Jesus.

There is something about 24-7 that breaks the cynicism often encountered in young adults.  I believe thousands of young people who've become disillusioned and fed up with the current state of things, will connect with a vision bigger than themselves and a cause worth living for.  I have a number of dreams in my heart that keep me up at night.  What excites me even more is how limited my dreams are compared to God.  What keeps Him up at night?
