Pray for the Heasleys in Ibiza - 30 Jun 2005

“There is a verse in the bible that says we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Writes Brian Heasely. “It is becoming very clear to us that we are in the right place at the right time and we feel very alive and excited to be here.”

"It is becoming very clear to us that we are in the right place at the right time and we feel very alive and excited to be here"

Brian and Tracy Heasely moved their home and their two sons, Ellis and Daniel, from the UK to the Balearic Island of Ibiza to plant a community in the heart of one of the most hedonistic cultures in Europe.  A next step in the mission work that has been happening through 24-7 on Ibiza for the last five years, Brian and Tracy update us on how they’re settling in and how we can pray for them.

“The activity on the island is beginning to pick up: the volume of tourists increases weekly; most of the clubs and bars have opened and we have actually been stuck in traffic! The first 24-7 summer long team member is here, to be followed by several more next week. We are very much looking forward to working together.

"Walking down one street in the West End of San Antonio with a friend this week, I counted 23 bars in 500 meters."
We have been quite surprised by the license given for advertising: several billboards on the route in to Ibiza from the airport show topless girls or women in bondage gear as different clubs are advertised; the Ibiza newspapers carry a lot of adverts for prostitutes, complete with photos. Manumission [the most controversial club night on the Island] continues to astound with their promotion methods - last year to advertise a club night some of their workers would go into San Antonio west end and have sex in the street, then hand out flyers to the gathered spectators.  Walking down one street in the West End of San Antonio with a friend this week, I counted 23 bars in 500 meters.

Our primary concern right now has to be about working in the middle of San Antonio. We have seen a small bar/café advertised for a rent of 900 euros per month, which we could use as a base for prayer and outreach. We feel strongly that this could be the next step; we would really value your prayers for wisdom and also for God’s provision for 900 euros per month.

Ellis and Dan are now only two weeks away from completing their first term of school here and we have our first parents evening this week. In general they have settled well and made some friends, but still have moments of missing family and friends from England.

Our language skills are improving all the time and in general we think we have turned a corner in feeling at home here.

We have had a number of visitors - their generosity, prayer and support has been fantastic and the boys have loved having them.  Our landlady regularly brings us produce from their farm, which we do appreciate. Courgettes have been particularly plentiful and we think we are now in a position to publish a book entitled The Naked Courgette!

Again, thank you all for your prayers, support, encouragement and generally for keeping in touch.

Lots of Love from Ibiza

Brian, Tracy, Ellis and Daniel”
