24-7 Mission: BBQs & blessings in Belgrade - 27 Jul 2005

"Today is our last day in Belgrade, " The 24-7 mission team in formerly war torn Belgrade, Serbia write on their blog;" This morning a couple of the guys went down to the station to meet the central European mobile mission team who arrived from Budapest; they are staying with us today before we head off tomorrow.

Monday's social action was a big success; the team spent most of the day in one of the dirtiest areas of the neighbourhood cleaning and painting a huge playground. By the end of the day it looked amazing and the local community were filling a space that had previously been deserted. Things are going really well with the guy who we are working with from the local council and he had been really impressed with the team's work ethic.

You'll remember that we spent our first weekend doing something similar in the same area with a vollyball court; we were filmed by a local TV station and this morning the programme was broadcast on the one of the channels here in the city; it was amusing to see us on the screen, but best of all we were able to share on the screen some of our heart for the city.

Yesterday was our last day with our Serbian friends and we threw a huge BBQ on the lake in the city; around 40-50 friends turned up during that afternoon and evening and we shared a great time together. We printed off flyers with the contact details for ourselves and the church for people to keep; it became apparent through many of the conversations that people were blessed by our time in Serbia, and it was great to know that many of the relationships will continue both next year, and over e-mail. The church turned out in force as well and it was great to see people mixing with each other.
Today we will spend our time with the mobile team handing over some of the things we have been doing aswell as sharing team times and food. Tomorrow we will debrief in Milan, Italy, before flying to London."
