Sacramento, California: A young man leads the way - 15 Nov 2005
Sunrise Community Church in Sacramento, California, USA held a week of 24-7 prayer - which stretched into two weeks - in October. Chris Peterson, a 23-year old, led the charge at his church after being impacted by 24-7 Prayer in Spain. Here's his story:
"These 2 weeks of 24-7 prayer have left my church hungry for more. Through this time, the Holy Spirit moved - so much so that we actually extended the prayer room for another week. People were dying to talk to God in this place of solitude. Two people have given their lives to Christ, and many told me of their renewed faith and desire to pray. Praise God... "This is the first time I’ve actually led an event like this or any event at all. I’ve learned a lot from it and it has opened up a few ministry opportunities. I look at these opportunities to serve and ask,
“Why me, Lord? I suck at praying…
Surely there’s got to be someone else.
I’m just some college student who
doesn‘t have any training whatsoever…”
"I am humbled to see Him work through me. I used to hate praying and always stayed away from these kind of gatherings, but over the past 2 years, through being involved with a missions prayer group and 24-7 prayer in Spain last summer, I’ve been changed forever.
"God gave me a vision for the next 24-7 prayer room…one of solitude and silence. Silence is probably the most neglected form of prayer, because it requires us to put down everything. We are not in control in this place, because in silence we stop doing and start being. Then, fear kicks in….a fear of, “What now?” - a fear that God won’t speak…a fear of what He might say. It is a place where we stop asking and simply open our hearts and receive of Him, His love and peace.
"I am thankful for having read “Red Moon Rising”. It taught me one of the simplest of truths….to say “Yes” to the Holy Spi
rit, to move forward in His leading despite inadequacy. Last fall after coming back from
"I am blessed to be a part of what God is doing through prayer around the world. It’s exciting to see so many young people pumped up about prayer… "
