UK: 24-7 Clubbing Update by Sarah Smith - 19 Jan 2006

"If Jesus was on earth with us today,
he would be hanging out in places like Fabric
every weekend rather than waiting for people
to drag their heels into church!"

- Sarah Smith

Isaiah 62v10:
“Pass through, pass through the gates!
Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway!
Remove the stones.
Raise a banner for the nations.”

"Despite the freezing January weather, London’s Fabric nightclub was surprisingly packed out Friday night and about 2,000 of us danced the night away to some brilliant beats and hard hitting tunes," writes a Jesus-crazed, dance-hall happy Sarah Smith.

"I found myself chatting to a guy dancing near our group. 'Are you out with your workmates?' he enquired. 'No, these are all mates of mine from different churches,' I replied.  'Wow, I didn’t see that one coming!!' he said, with eyes popping out of his head. Awesome!!

"God is definitely up to something in club-land! Wherever we look there are loads of people into dancing, DJ-ing and club promoting, and seeking to share the gospel through their passions. We recently had a day of prayer and fasting and people in Manchester, Southampton, Guildford, Leicester,  Belfast, Portsmouth, Madrid and even Barbados got involved!

Why don’t people expect to find Christians in clubs?
"Why don’t people expect to find Christians in clubs? If Jesus was on earth with us today, I reckon he would be hanging out in places like Fabric every weekend rather than waiting for people to drag their heels into church!

"He would be out and about amongst the people reaching out to them wherever they were! And that’s exactly what we want to do.

"God is building a community across the UK and even further  afield of people with a heart for the club scene. For more than a year now, a group of us have been regularly ‘following Jesus’ into London’s nightclubs, praying and worshipping as we dance through the night. We started off by doing a club-and-pray tour of seven of the biggest clubs in London – Turnmills, Pacha, The Ministry of Sound, The Cross, Fabric, The End and Heaven. We knew that God wanted us to prepare the way for him to move in club-land by praying and worshipping in these clubs.

"Since then we have concentrated on a club called The Cross (which is in King’s Cross), renowned for the great tunes, a fab venue and a very up-for-it crowd. We’ve been clubbing and praying there regularly in order to build relationships with other clubbers as well as the club staff.

"Just as we spent 2005 building foundations and establishing a presence for Jesus in London’s club scene, we envision 2006 as a year to see individuals transformed as they come into contact with God! We really want God to use us for that at The Cross – please pray for us!

"A group has also started to go out clubbing and praying in Fabric on a regular basis. Perhaps other teams will start to go to the other clubs we prayed in – that would be cool (hint…)!

"If you are interested in getting involved in some way, please let me know. We would also love to hear from you if you are not into clubbing, but would be up for covering us in prayer when we go out. Email me on [email protected].

"Hope you all have your dancing shoes dusted off ready for plenty of boogying in 2006!"
