Good Problem to Have: explosive Irish prayer room can't shut down - 25 Jan 2006
Gillian Best, national youthworker for the Methodist Church in Ireland, writes: "We have some amazing testimonies from our week of prayer. I don't even know where to start...
"That Friday he saw the boy, and the first thing he said was, 'I became a Christian on Monday night!' YES!!!" |
"Most people commented that an hour was not nearly long enough!
| |
"One girl used the word 'addictive' to describe her experience in the prayer room, spending time in God's presence.
"Two mothers came and prayed for an hour, and then signed up again bringing their entire families... |
"the walls are covered..."
"When Sunday night came, bringing with it the conclusion of our week of prayer, we sat amazed in the prayer room musing over what we had experienced. We could hardly blow out the candles and turn out the lights in this place that had become so sacred in such a short period of time. It was hard to walk out of.
"The time-slots were all filled (an answer to prayer in itself!), but much more importanly, people met God - heard from God - and the walls are covered with the outcome of that!
"Everyone is talking about how the prayer room should be kept open and, coincidentally, lots of ideas are flying round about how we could make this a 'house of prayer' open to the community - the student community and also the areas nearby that have seen their fair share of the Northern Irish conflict over the years.
"The common theme seems to be 'how do we share this'....with other churches in Ireland and 'how do we turn our prayers into action?'
"We have kept it open office hours this week and already we have had a few people in feeling they had missed out last week! and two requests from groups, one from YWAM and one from another a church to bring people along this week... |

"So that's our challenge this week as we meet on Thursday afternoon - what do we do next? Can't go back, can't stay here...gotta move forward!"
