Indianapolis, IN: It's that simple - 27 Jun 2006
Heads will
always turn when the youth of our nation are recaptured by the
heart of God - God's pursuit in a young person's life is filled
with a distinct power and energy that cannot be suppressed.
Recently,
a youth group in Indianapolis, IN gathered to pray for 48 hours. The
repercussions of this time are still evident even now.
The simple
obedience and desire of a small group of people brings true change
in a hopeless and searching culture. In the context of our busy
society, these students
found that the spirit of God was whispering to
them to rest, to quiet themselves before Him, and to draw near. They
were initially apprehensive, wondering what to pray and how to pray.
What began small caught like fire, and soon, they could not get enough - they were coming back to fill the remaining prayer slots. It is from
this simple beginning that the news of Jesus Christ spread with
fervor- a perfect example of how true prayer should practically
touch the lost in our own spheres of society...

touch the lost in our own spheres of society... | A powerful thing happened as 3 of the students agreed together in prayer over the life of their Hindu friend. After a powerful time of prayer, one of them received a phone call from him, and the only logical thing to do was to invite this young Hindu boy to come and hang out with them in the prayer room! They readily showed him around the prayer space and explained what they were doing. The following day, he openly expressed how much he enjoyed his time in the prayer room and ended up having a significant conversation with one of the students about Jesus, as well as about other questions that life on earth naturally evokes. This is the heart of God in action! |
With all the good
ideas that our minds can conjure up today, it is interesting that when
it comes down to it, prayer surpasses everybody's expectations and
all of the great
formats and programs fade into the background. For
this youth group in Indiana, the leaders quickly found that
connecting their students directly to God through prayer has been (by far) the most effective avenue yet taken. The generations before and
beyond are equally blessed through the lives of these young people
who are simply discovering a hunger for Jesus. And, two weeks
later, they were still talking about what God did in the window of only 48
hours!
