Ibiza: DrUgS, MiRaCLes & a DriVe-ThRu ShOoTiNg - 15 Aug 2006
It's proving to be an amazing summer for the 24-7 mission on the mediterranean island of Ibiza, led by Brian and Tracey
Heasley. 'We've prayed for more than a thousand people by name, the
vast majority of whom wouldn't call themselves Christians,' reports
Brian, 'and there have been many dramatic answers to prayer'.
Recently there was a drive-by shooting in the streets of the West
End where the team are primarily working. A dealer and two bystanders
caught bullets. 'We're learning to face the road when we talk to drug
dealers,' Brian chuckles, 'just in case there's a black mercedes
approaching'. There are reports of healing from non-Christians and
ambulance runs to the hospital for girls whose drinks have been spiked.
Just an average month for missionaries to Europe's party capital, where
less than 0.3% claim to be Christians...

BREAKING HEART IN THE WEST END

A REPORTED HEALING, AND WORSHIP BY DARIUS |

'Last night we went to
Privilege, biggest club in the world," writes Antje from
Germany - a member of the team. 'Amazingly there was a
christian DJ playing, who's part of the 24-7 community out
here, and we were supporting him with prayer. "But what still is really most touching my heart is the "WEST END": this special place with its noise and dirt, where nearly everybody tries to find fun, sex, drugs and alcohol. But God loves this place and in the last days we as a Team got to know more and more God's heart which HE has for the WEST END. "In
the WEST END we met a guy called J who works for a strip club; some of
the former teams have met him. It broke my heart when he told us that
he used to be a Christian and left his faith 2 years ago. He asked us
to pray for him. Please pray also for him and that he finds a way back
to God. Wouldn't this be a great story?"It's cool to see how 24-7-Ibiza becomes more and more a part of the culture in the WEST END, and becomes more and more accepted. Now people come to us because they already know the "logo" of the shirts and ask us for prayer. We are dreaming of the day where 24-7 is just as common in the WEST END as all the bars and clubs, and we are dreaming of the day where the tourist guides recommend to go to 24-7 when people need a time out and prayer." 'Well a week's gone already and in this time
we have seen the team stretched and growing!' writes Darius. 'The
longer I spend here, the more I begin to latch onto something which is
a reality here. There is something VERY significant about this tiny Island.
Theres a reason that it plays hosts to the most famous celebritis this
world has to offer. I just finished talking to a new buddy of mine
Nathan who works for a club called "Amnesia". He said a couple weeks
back he saw Puff Daddy in the VIP room there.
'The Island is AMAZINGLY picturesque. As someone who is SO into music I am nothing short of inspired by this visit. I wonder how God see's this place in terms of opportunity.....I wonder how we could represent him in different sections of this amazing culture. I wonder how I can further worship my creator in such a place........I wonder....... Last night we also spent another evening/ morning in the West End. It was amazing, but I will summarise with 2 highlights of the evening. A bar rep here, who's eyes lit up as she saw us because God healed what she thought was tonsillitus. It was her who claimed it was the prayer....at the same time 3 others asked us for prayer for them and their loved ones. Well we're off again into the West End. I am already a changed man....really I am. I am changed as God shows me more of his heart for the lost. I am changed as he breaks down misconceptions I had of this world....as he tears prejudices off of my back....as he heals me and heals those around me. I am changed as GOD becomes a reality in so many peoples lives here and more of a reality in mine. I am changed as I spend my time blessing others.....sharing Jesus' love. I am changed as I see his beauty in a place I once would have described as ugly......where once upon a time I wouldnt have even thought of coming to......... Love you all loads in our Lord. Darius |
