The Tempter's Fall - a poem by Andrew Horton - 24 Oct 2006

Sin
stood there, mighty, looming,
Old
ways haunting, due resuming,
Nothing
left in strength or might,
A
little hope, but little fight,
Stuck
against the corner wall,
Tempter
tempting... tempting fall...
No
way forward, no way back,
Full
on enemy, full on attack.
Rescue
needed, salvation pleaded,
Scripture’s
warning; warning heeded...
Scripture’s
hope and Scripture’s light,
Sudden
turn in style of fight:
Weary
soldier, down on knees,
Firing
heavenwards, mercy pleas,
Devil
rattled, Devil flees.
The Word, the prayers, combine with ease.
Angels
attending, a saint depending,
A
broken spirit, carefully mending,
A
work of Grace, so soul relieving,
Another
reason to keep believing...
No
promise this life’s trials will cease,
Just
precious glimpse of Heaven’s peace.
