Prayer Has Left the Building in Indiana, USA By Adri RoosAdri Roos - 2 Apr 2008
About two years ago the senior pastor of a church in Indiana, USA was inspired by Red Moon Rising and challenged his congregation to a week of constant prayer. The week of prayer led to a month and eventually, two years later, they’re still praying! The Church gave themselves to seeking the Lord night and day and after experiencing the joy of hanging out with their Father, they don’t want it to end. But the prayer hasn’t stopped there.Prayer has left the building…
The church is contagious with the virus of night and day prayer and it’s spreading. From this single 24-7-365 Prayer Room two new Prayer Rooms have been birthed.
As their passion for prayer has spread, the ignition for mission has kicked in. 34 students from the local university gave their lives to God just sixth months into the prayer room. If you missed their story check it out and be encouraged!
The un-containable, transformational power of prayer is what I love about 24-7. I am inspired by how it moves beyond the boundaries of a single, physical room into the lives of those who know Jesus and those who don’t.
William Carey, known as the father of modern missions said: “If you want the Kingdom speeded, go out and speed it yourselves. Only obedience rationalizes prayer. Only Missions can redeem your intercessions from insincerity.”
I often think that there shouldn’t be a divide in our thinking between prayer and mission. On Saturday night I was walking back from the Guildford Prayer Room here in the UK with two friends Beth and Frances who are on 24-7’s yearlong training course, Transit. We saw a staggering man in front of us, walking into the road every few steps. I ran over to him, to try and help him from being hurt, and just as I reached him he fell head first into the middle of the road. With the help of a taxi driver we managed to pull him back onto the pavement and saw that he had really bruised his head. We called an ambulance and waited with him. As I wiped away a few tears I asked Jesus to somehow be with this man and use this simple situation to bring this man closer to Himself.I pray that my actions will be as prayers to God, that our prayer will move our hearts to mission and that we will be obedient and kind people.
