South African Woman Running London Marathon for 24-7Carla Harding - 28 Mar 2008

“I'm really excited to be running the London marathon this year.  I'm doing it for a great cause: 24-7 Prayer.”

The first London Marathon, inspired by it’s New York counterpart, was held in March 1981 with nearly 8,000 people from all over the world running a grueling 26 miles through the streets of England’s capital city.

Today the annual marathon has become a huge event with 46,500 runners accepted from over 80,000 applicants.  Many Olympic standard athletes compete alongside eager (and not so eager) amateurs hoping to complete the challenge and raise money for charity.  We are honoured that Shirley Cameron would run this year's marathon on the 13th April for 24-7 Prayer.

“This international movement has touched my life and the lives of many others around the world.” Writes Shirley.  “It encourages us to encounter God in new and challenging ways.  It's also about changing the world: becoming the answer to our prayers and bringing justice and freedom to needy people everywhere.
This is why I’m running.  I want to give something to the work that God is doing through this movement.”

Sponsoring this run is simple, fast and totally secure. Shirley has set up a Just Giving page where you can find out more about her challenge.  “Just Giving is the most efficient way to sponsor me: 24-7 Prayer will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
  So please sponsor me now!
  Many thanks for your support.”

If you are a runner like Shirley or have another talent you would like to put to good use why not find a fun new way to give to 24-7 Prayer.  You don’t have to run 26 miles (unless you want to) but if you can sit in a bath of baked beans for 24 hours, be silent for a week or do anything else you can think of why not set up your own fundraiser and bless this ever growing movement of prayer and mission around the globe.
