Free Download: Dublin Seminar Sessions - JusticeMatthew Horswell - 19 Nov 2013
We are releasing free audio downloads of all the seminar sessions from the International Gathering in Dublin. The Gathering hosted 7 different seminar streams: Creativity, Leadership, Church, Justice, Prayer and Mission - each stream had 4 seminars in total. We will be releasing a new stream every couple of days, today's release is 'Justice':
Justice Stream Overview:
We have always said that Prayer, Mission and Justice are equal core values of 24-7 Prayer. Has justice become sidelined? Does justice just happen naturally as we outlive Prayer and Mission, or should it be actively pursued? God specifically requires us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly. In this stream, current justice practitioners will teach, inspire and answer questions, sharing what they have learned through their own journeys. Together we will explore what it means to live with justice at the core of what we do and how we can practically outwork justice issues, both as communities and individuals.
Session 1 – Aaron White: Just discovery: Finding the God of justice at the margins
The adventure of faith takes the church to the very edges of society, where we find a Father who is already present poor, unheard, broken and neglected! This session will look at the biblical mandate to live justly, the implications for 24-7 and how, as we pray, Jesus leads us to the margins. Both Brian and Aaron are practitioners who have lived, with their families, among those whom society ignores, or even despises.
Session 2 – Andy Freeman and Guests: Just Action: Expressing God’s passion for justice through global engagement
This session will explore how we can effectively work for international justice on a global scale. What are some of the areas where we can get involved and how do we intervene effectively? The session will include practitioners and consider how we can lobby, campaign and pray in a way that brings change.
Session 3 - Brian Heasley and Guests: Just Involvement: Expressing God’s passion for justice through lifestyle and local action
From the global we now focus in on local engagement and action. Brian will draw examples from a variety of 24-7 churches and communities who are working creatively to bring good news to the poor and release for the captives. From the stories we will then draw out key lessons, principles, strategies and priorities to apply to where God has placed us.
Session 4 – Jessie Joe Jacobs: Just Perseverance: Engaging with God’s justice for the long haul
God calls us to dream big and step out with confidence. Jessie Joe Jacobs is working, through ‘A Way Out ‘, to bring an end to addiction and poverty among young people in Stockton on Tees (England). It’s a big vision but will not happen overnight. Through her story she will draw out foundational principles for long term engagement – building awareness, gathering team, strategic lessons, and personal lifestyle and survival.
On Thursday we will be releasing the 'Prayer' stream
